To most of us, owning a sex doll may appear commonplace, but for many enthusiasts residing in less liberal countries regarding sexual preferences and activities, this is far from reality. We live in a technologically advanced and rapidly evolving world where many individuals are moving away from strict adherence to religious doctrines.
However, despite this societal shift, there are still several countries worldwide where owning a sex doll or similar adult products can lead to serious legal consequences.
Ordering a sex doll could result in customs confiscation and potential visits from law enforcement officials due to strict regulations in some regions.
Certain countries uphold the belief that sexual activity should only occur between men and women for procreation purposes. In contrast, others view nude dolls as excessively obscene and distasteful. This perspective can be linked to religious beliefs, as some individuals consider introducing a sex object into their sacred space as highly inappropriate.
Regardless of the rationale behind the aversion to self-pleasure tools, one fact remains evident: these countries strictly adhere to their laws without exception, regardless of the uniqueness of individual circumstances.
To ensure your safety and prevent any legal issues when purchasing our products, we have compiled a list of countries where sex dolls are prohibited.
We deeply regret that we cannot serve customers from every country worldwide, but your safety is our top priority.
Below is a list of 15 locations where sex dolls are illegal:
Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia stands as the Middle East’s second-largest tourist hub, attracting over 16 million visitors in 2017 to marvel at its stunning sand dunes and ancient tombs.
Nevertheless, it’s not unexpected that, alongside the prohibition of alcohol and pork, Saudi Arabia strictly prohibits the possession of sex dolls. According to Islamic law, these items and other self-pleasuring aids are considered illegal pornographic materials.
If a sex doll package is detected at customs, it will likely be confiscated. Furthermore, apart from losing the item, you might also face legal repercussions.
However, Saudi Arabia does have what they call a “halal sex store” but they don’t carry sex toys or sex dolls.
It’s a “Sharia-compliant” sex shop in Mecca selling halal products for Muslims that include scented candles, oils, and creams aiming to improve the atmosphere and increase your sensuality.
Iraq & Iran
Iraq and Iran, both Muslim nations, have a staunch stance against alcoholism, drug addiction, and self-pleasuring aids such as sex dolls.
Due to the secretive nature of their laws and enforcement practices, it is challenging to ascertain the severity of penalties for possessing a sex doll.
What is certain is that if your sex doll is discovered at customs, it will be confiscated, and you will not receive it.
An incident in 2017, where Iraqi forces uncovered a basement filled with alcohol, drugs, and blowup sex dolls, involving citizens from both Iraq and Iran, sheds light on the strict enforcement of these laws.
Kuwait
There’s been some talk among Reddit users and even eBay that sex dolls are going to become legal in Kuwait, however, this is still not the case as of 2024.
There have been a few reported incidents where blowup sex dolls were discovered at customs and torn up and purposely damaged by officials.
The people who’ve ordered the goods were then taken in for questioning and made to pay a financial fine for violating the law.
Mauritius
The Middle East isn’t the only region with “anti-obscenity” laws; Africa also enforces strict regulations against importing sex dolls.
Take Mauritius, for instance—an island known for its stunning beaches, reefs, and wildlife like monkeys and turtles freely roaming the streets. While it’s a dream destination, Mauritius maintains stringent restrictions on imported items, with sex dolls being on the list of prohibited items.
In Mauritius, if a sex doll is addressed to your home, you risk facing up to one year in prison and a fine of 100,000 Mauritian Rupees (approximately $3,000).
Mexico
I’m sure this one caught you by surprise, didn’t it?
It turns out that there are certain things you can’t do in Mexico, and having a sex doll as companionship during solitary nights is one of them.
Ironically, many desire a curvy Latina and would spare no effort to have one, even if it means purchasing a meticulously crafted sex doll resembling those famous curves. However, residents of Mexico are not permitted to import sex dolls for personal use.
Nevertheless, Mexico does have sex shops where you can find a variety of items such as sex toys, lingerie, and fetish accessories like whips, bondage gear, and blindfolds.
The Maldives
Tropical islands are undoubtedly a dream destination for many, but the authorities in these locations may not be receptive to the idea of importing sex dolls in the near future.
Pornography is prohibited in the Maldives, and sex dolls are categorized similarly. If you attempt to import a sex doll, it will likely be confiscated at customs, and you may face legal repercussions, possibly leading to a jail sentence.
The risk of arrest for possession of pornography or self-pleasuring items is real in such places. There have been cases where individuals were jailed, such as a man who received a six-month sentence for possessing one of these items.
Yikes indeed!
Panama
The regulations regarding self-pleasuring aids in Panama are somewhat ambiguous. It remains unclear whether sex dolls are truly illegal and the severity of the punishment if they are.
Despite this uncertainty, sex dolls are not readily available for purchase in the country, and prominent sex doll manufacturers do not ship their products to Panama.
On the other hand, smaller sex toys appear to be legal. However, there is a lack of clarity regarding the legality of full-sized sex dolls in Panama.
Thailand
Thailand, along with Mexico, was among the countries that surprised me the most during my research for this article.
It turns out that sex dolls are not permitted in the land often nicknamed “ladyboys,” a term tourists sometimes use derogatorily to refer to Thailand.
Thailand is renowned for its rich culture, adventurous spirit, and delectable cuisine. One might assume they are sexually open-minded due to the prevalence of gender reassignment surgeries.
However, that’s not the case. Sex dolls and other self-pleasuring items are illegal in Thailand, falling under the category of “obscene objects.” Although the penalties aren’t severe, there’s a high chance that your doll will be confiscated and destroyed by customs, resulting in a loss of money.
Vietnam
In 2011, the General Department of Vietnam Customs made it clear that self-pleasuring aids would not be permitted entry into the country.
Although the laws have become somewhat more lenient since then, and Vietnam does have several sex shops offering essential items, it’s unlikely that Vietnamese citizens will have access to full-sized sex dolls anytime soon.
That being said, the penalties in Vietnam are not as harsh as in some of the previously mentioned countries. However, there is still a possibility that you may face a minor financial fine if caught with such items.
Malaysia
Malaysia is a highly sought-after tourist destination known for its incredibly affordable goods. Despite its seemingly laid-back atmosphere, Malaysian citizens are restricted from experiencing intimacy with modern sex dolls.
Under the Malaysian Penal Code, it is not only illegal to possess but also to sell or distribute obscene items such as sex dolls, sex toys, and pornography. Unlike Vietnam and Thailand, where consequences are minor, Malaysia imposes severe penalties. If caught with a sex toy or pornographic material, one can face up to 3 years of imprisonment and/or a fine.
Owning a sex doll in Malaysia is a risky endeavor, so it’s advisable to steer clear of it.
Alabama, United States
The issue of sex dolls also extends to certain areas in the United States. According to the 1998 Anti-Obscenity Enforcement Act, the sale of adult toys has been criminalized. The act defines an adult toy as any device designed or marketed for stimulating human genital organs.
Norway (sex dolls under 125cm)
If you reside in Norway, you have the freedom to order a sex doll for personal enjoyment. However, there is one crucial law in the country that must be adhered to if you wish to avoid hefty fines or potentially serving a 3-year jail term.
In 2017, Norway’s highest court enacted a law prohibiting citizens from ordering sex dolls that are under 125cm in height.
India
India, known for its rich cultural heritage including the famous Kamasutra, has peculiar laws regarding the import of self-pleasuring aids such as sex dolls.
According to the Indian Penal Code, any pornographic material, including books, drawings, figures, or objects, is considered obscene if it incites sexual thoughts and behaviors. Consequently, such items are banned from the country.
As a result, the legality of sex products in India can vary based on their appearance and mode of sale.
For example, a wand massager that doesn’t look like a penis is legal while realistic dildos and sex dolls are not. In India, basically, a sex toy is only illegal when it looks like a penis or a vagina.
